Hi. Welcome to Em Quad*.
Over the past ten years, in spite of the explosion of new design companies, real-world design skills and print experience have become hard to find in the same place…
…up until about five seconds ago.
We love print. Every printed item and every online page we produce is a bespoke piece, designed to suit its purpose, within a set budget and timescale.
An Eye for Design and a Nose for a Bargain
Our design team work closely with our print buyers in order to get the best price without compromising quality. Years of experience has taught us where the pitfalls are and we'll make sure your job steers clear of them.
Traditional Values
Compared to today's computer and laser-driven pre-press technology, pre-war typographers were not exactly a byword for speed. They suffered from their own set of problems from battered type (broken letters) to being 'out of sorts' — but they knew a thing or two about clear, legible design and it is from their typographical values that we draw a lot of our inspiration.
*It's a hot metal type thing. The 'M' in most typefaces is usually as wide as it is tall so the square (quad) of the body of any typeface was referred to as an 'em' by compositors. The typesetting convention is that you should always use an em quad before anything else. Esoteric, isn't it!
